⚠️ Counterfeit £50 Notes – Bovey Tracey ⚠️
While on foot patrol in Bovey Tracey this afternoon, we were alerted to two young males attempting to use counterfeit £50 Royal Bank of Scotland notes in local shops and pubs.
The suspects were purchasing low-value items in an attempt to receive genuine change. The notes have been confirmed as fake.
Please remain vigilant when accepting high-value Scottish notes, but remember smaller value notes may also be counterfeit
The National Crime Agency advises checking:
• Hologram that changes when tilted. • Colour-changing map of Scotland (purple to gold). • Moving rings across the map. • Raised print and textured areas (including the portrait).
There is also guidance available online, including advice on using UV light to check security features.
If you suspect a counterfeit note, retain it where possible and report it to police, along with any CCTV evidence.
Thank you for helping protect our local businesses.
